She resides in a cozy New Haven apartment with her curious hedgehogs.
Nicole Yen is a designer and wordsmith. She spends most of her time sketching on paper or crafting sentences in the studio-taking breaks to propagate plants and explore local forests. She holds a BFA in Communication Design from Washington University in St. Louis and Flora is her first children's book authorship.
Kathryn Selbert is a freelance illustrator and designer currently living in Montclair, NJ with her French bulldog Margot and tea loving boyfriend. She earned her BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design. While attending RISD, she completed a children's book design internship at Sterling Publishing. She creates illustrations for children, pattern, greeting cards, stationery and ex and interactive design

Watch the pop-ups move as the pages unfold!Page 1: Every flower begins as a bud. Their blooms produce seeds which root into sprouts. While all flowers share the same humble beginnings... Flap 1: Spring brings rain and warmer weather, which encourages plants to produce flowers.
Page 2: ...they come in a stunning range of brilliant hues and exceptional shapes. Flap 1: Many peony and poppy flowers open in sunlight, closing at night and on cloudy days. Flap 2: Jasmine flowers release their fragrance after the sun sets to attract nighttime pollinators. Flap 3: Annual plants have bright, showy blossoms that last a single season; perennial plants survive many years and tend to have smaller flowers.
Page 3: Some flowers have special colors and scents to attract bees for pollination. Flap 1: Bees turn nectar into honey to feed the colony. Flap 2: Many species of bees are endangered due to climate change, habitat loss, disease, and pesticides.
Page 4: Sweet floral nectar feeds tiny animals and insects. In return, they share their dusty gifts of pollen with other plants. Flap 1: More than 300 species of fruit depend on bats for pollination. Flap 2: When butterflies land on flowers, pollen is transferred to and from their legs. Flap 3: Hummingbirds can drink up to two times their body weight in nectar a day.
Page 5: Flowers produce fruits and seeds after pollination. Flap 1: Some seeds are airy enough to flit in the wind; others are carefully armored for years. Flap 2: When critters eat fruit, they deposit seeds in new areas through their droppings. Flap 3: Every fruit starts as a flower, but not every flower produces fruit!
Page 6: While some flowers grow on land, others flourish in water. Flap 1: Aquatic plants nurture wildlife by filtering water, creating oxygen, and providing shelter. Flap 2: Plants that grow in water often have flexible stems that either float freely or reach into the soil below.
