Based on iCoupler technology, ADUM1201 has many advantages over opto-isolators:

More flexible application Unlike traditional optocouplers, the multi-channel iCoupler digital isolator can provide forward and reverse communication channels in the same chip.
The two ends of the ADUM1201 isolated have their own power and ground reference, and the power supply voltage range is between 2.7V and 5.5V, which can achieve low voltage power supply, thereby further reducing system power consumption. A capacitor of 0.01 μF to 0.1 μF needs to be connected between the power supply and the reference ground to filter out high-frequency interference. The distance between the capacitor and the power supply should be within 20 mm, so as to achieve a better filtering effect. Because the two isolated channels are highly matched, the crosstalk between the channels is small, and the two-channel input-output reverse design is very suitable for the RS232 bus bidirectional transmission and reception characteristics, which greatly simplifies the hardware connection between the isolator and the isolated ends. It should be noted that GND1 and GND2 are two different reference grounds, otherwise the effect of isolation will not be achieved.

It should also be noted that when the ADUM1201 is working normally, the power supply at both ends needs to be powered on at the same time to ensure that the two channels of the ADUM1201 can work normally. If one is not powered on, the entire chip will not work properly.
