DS1302 real-time clock module:
The DS1302 is a trickle charge clock chip from DALLAS that includes a real-time clock/calendar and 31-byte static RAM that communicates with the microcontroller via a simple serial interface. The real-time clock/calendar circuit provides information on seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years. The number of days per month and the number of days in leap years are automatically adjusted. Clock operation can be determined by the AM/PM indication in 24- or 12-hour format. The DS1302 can communicate with the microcontroller simply by synchronous serialization. Only three port lines are required: (1) RST reset (2) I/O data line (3) SCLK serial clock. The clock/RAM read/write data is communicated in one byte or up to 31 bytes of bursts. The DS1302 consumes very low power while maintaining data and clock information with less than 1mW of power.
